Shanghai is a wonderful blend of ancient culture and modern movement, and this half-day tour will take you from the 15th Century to the latest hot spots for Shanghai nightlife! Your tour begins with a visit to The Bund, located on the waterfront of the Huangpu River. This bustling area, featuring grand buildings from the pre 1930 colonial era, is a must see destination when visiting Shanghai. Your next stop, in Shanghai’s old city, takes you back in time to the 15th Century. The Yuyuan Garden is the only surviving garden built in the Ming Dynasty. The garden has forty skillfully designed ancient constructions including the 9 foot high Exquisite Jade Rock. Returning to the 20th Century, we next visit Xintiandi Bar Street. Xintiandi was constructed between 1999 and 2001 by converting an old residential area into a modern multifunctional entertainment center with international restaurants, cafes, bars and boutiques. The shops retain the exterior of the Shikumen housing of old Shanghai with their original antique walls and tiles, but with modern interiors. Enjoy High Tea at a local restaurant followed by free time to roam through the shops. The outing concludes with a visit to the Former French Concession, a neighborhood of pleasant tree-lined streets and trendy boutiques and restaurants. The deadline for booking is May 15th, 2010.

| Highlights: | Oriental Pearl TV Tower – Riverside Promenade – Shanghai Museum – Former French Concession – Lunch - Jade Buddha Temple – Zhujiaojiao Water Village | ||||
This full-day tour is a great option for OMAE attendees who didn’t have an opportunity to get out and explore Shanghai during the conference! At the first stop, see Shanghai and its surroundings from the world’s fourth-tallest tower, the iconic Oriental Pearl TV Tower. The Tower, surrounded by the Yangpu Bridge in the Northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the Southwest, creates a delightful picture of two dragons playing with pearls. With your feet back on the ground, tour the Riverside Promenade on the banks of the Huangpu River. The Promenade consists of manicured lawns, flower beds, and a broad walkway dotted with kiosks, and also acts as a flood barrier. Remember to bring your cameras as this is a great spot for taking pictures of the Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the fantastic architecture of the Pudong skyscrapers. On to the highly acclaimed Shanghai Museum, an outstanding architectural feat of traditional features and modern spirit. Focusing on ancient Chinese culture, the Museum possesses a collection of 120,000 pieces, almost half of China’s total collection! After the Museum you will be ready for lunch, which will be served at a restaurant in the Former French Concession. Following lunch, visit the famous Jade Buddha Temple, renowned for its two jade Buddhist statues brought back from Burma by the Monk Huigen for Putuo Mountain during the Qing Dynasty. The final stop and highlight of the tour is a visit to Zhujiajiao Water Village. This ‘Venice of Shanghai’ features beautiful waterways, arched stone bridges, ancient streets paved with stone, and more than 10,000 houses dating back to Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. The village is located just 47 kilometers away from Shanghai, south of the Yangtze River. The deadline for booking is May 15th, 2010.
